#SAAM Week 2

Events

This week we had a great time at community events and reaching out to new people! Jefferson College of Health Sciences hosted Take Back the Night on Tuesday, April 11th. This event has a long tradition at the college and many students and community members came out to the Dog House to demonstrate support for survivors.

On Wednesday, April 12th SARA collaborated with Feeding America Southwest Virginia to do outreach in Craig County. Thanks to an invitation from Chris Adkins, Coordinator of Collaborative Partnerships, we joined FAWV for their Mobile Produce Program distribution in New Castle. They distribute over 200 boxes of food to the community and we were lucky enough to put one of our brochures in each of these boxes. Our ability to reach this community can be challenging, but thanks to this partnership we know more of our community members are now aware of our services.

On Thursday, we joined agencies at Hollins University for their Health and Wellness Fair. It was a fun day building awareness of our organization and chatting with students about our internship and volunteer opportunities. We are happy to be a community resource for our local universities and colleges.

Did you catch us bright and early Saturday morning on WDBJ7? If not, don’t worry because you can catch it here:
